Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of xAI, has confirmed that his AI team has already started working on the next model product upgrade as Grok 4.2, and it will release soon.

Last week, the Grok 4 model family made a debut with its most advanced reasoning and data training. The foundation V6, which is Grok 4 is based on, has seen major improvement in completing queries and providing accurate results.

This is one of the core domains that Grok 3 has been struggling and xAI had to come up with a solution by reasoning from first principles, adding more facts rather than taking opinion-based data from the internet to form answers.

During the Grok 4 Demo live stream, Musk mentioned that the xAI’s V6 foundation model is powerful in all aspects but still lacks in image and video understanding. However, the developers are already working on the V7 foundation model, which has matured these two capabilities.

Currently, Grok can generate Images with the Aurora model featuring realistic details, and the model can also identify pictures to share details. However, the level of understanding might not have reached the point of analyzing data such as video clips.

In addition, xAI is also working on a dedicated video generation model, and its training will start in a few weeks. This model will be based on V7, and it will output minutes and even an hour of video clip. This model is slated to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Musk explained that these new capabilities will form a new level of understanding in Grok, enabling human-like tasks such as creating, observing, and playing games. It will also fix any bugs and add new features, design new levels, and decide whether the game is perfect for gamers.

For now, Musk has not revealed anything about the Grok 4.2 release date, but we’ll have to wait for more hints from xAI team members and developers.
