Grok AI replies notifications are haunting X users

Grok is one of the most used generative AI tools, and its X integration has increased its engagement rate. X users seek its replies to validate posts or know more about the context, but many of these are now frustrated with this xAI chatbot for a certain reason.

Users are saying that the AI replies are disturbing a normal conversation experience on the platform. Well-known photographer, John Kraus, said the Grok tagging and its replies create “messy” threads filled with “slop”. These responses may be irrelevant, or overwhelm online users without adding any value to the platform.

Other users also voiced the same opinion, that Grok’s automatic replies add unnecessary information that is different from human conversation. Such replies reduce user engagement and meaningful interactions on posts.

Krause also mentioned the lack of control over such a behaviour. He suggested that X should have a feature where users can disable Grok replies to threads, which shows a clear frustration. This is due to the fact of tagging, which pushes notifications and responses to their timeline, reducing the appearance of relevant content that they follow.

In that case, some of the users have muted Grok responses, which received a response from Nikita Bier, head of product at X. He investigated this matter and temporarily disabled new Grok mentions and promised to fix the issues in a few days.

He has now posted a new statement confirming the new upgrades to resolve the ongoing mention issue. Bier said that the X team is testing new rules so that users don’t get pulled into threads unless the post author or a specific user has mentioned the Grok.

This improvement falls in for the notifications part, but the company still have a lot to work on the spamming segment for which, which may get resolved soon.
