Tesla delivered 3 million Model 3 EVs worldwide

Tesla has announced that the Model 3 electric vehicle (EV) has completed 3 million global sales, completing a new feat in the global automotive market.

Tesla Model 3 is a compact sedan with a sporty design that provides less priced access to customers compared to Model X and Model S. It began initial deliveries to employees in 2017, followed by an expansion to customers in 2018. In the same year, the company reported 100,000 global deliveries, marking a successful entry into the mass-market EV.

This EV reached its first 1 million sales goal by mid-2021, with cumulative production and delivery showing rapid growth. These numbers are driven by production expansion at Shanghai Gigafactory, which was opened in 2019. The Strong demand in Europe and China helped Model 3 become a top-selling EV, outselling all of its competitors.

The 2 million sale milestone was achieved by the third quarter of 2021, as part of Tesla’s total vehicle deliveries of more than 2.9 million units. This was also the result of expansion in more key areas.

In 2023, Tesla introduced a redesigned Model 3, codenamed Highland, first in China and then in Europe. It features a sleek fascia for maximum aerodynamics, and the front has been changed to a modern look. The cabin has been improved for more quieter experience, new suspension and seats provide ride comfort. The company also installed a separate display for the passenger row.

To date, Model 3 and Model Y remain its top sellers and make the most out of its every quarterly sales. In 2024, Tesla sold a total of 1,704,093 units of these two vehicles combined.
