xAI has announced that it has secured $20 billion in Series E funding, enabling the Supercomputer and operations scaling across the board for Grok AI.

The company has received this new funding from investors, including Valor Equity Partners, Stepstone Group, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Qatar Investment Authority, MGX, Baron Capital Group, and more. Meanwhile, xAI’s strategic partners – Nvidia and Cisco continue to provide hardware support for future infrastructure scaling.

xAI is operating the largest AI supercomputer in the world, located in Memphis, named Colossus. The facility features over 450,000 GPUs, including H100, H200, and advanced AI chips, to power Grok AI.

In October 2024, the company announced Colossus with 100,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs. Within the 99 days of this announcement, the AI firm doubled the GPU count to 200,000. Last year, the cluster added over 250,000 GPUs to reach a total count of 450k.

This rapid growth has enabled Grok to excel in AI capabilities. In 2025, the company released the following models

  • Grok 3
  • Grok 4
  • Grok 4 Fast
  • Grok 4.1
  • Grok 4.1 Fast (and Code)

The ever-increasing computing infrastructure is used to train these models with speed and efficiency. Thus, providing benefits such as better and more accurate information. One of the key advantages of Grok is its X integration, which keeps its real-time information base different from competitors such as ChatGPT and Gemini.

This funding is enabling the launch of Imagine, a short AI video generation tool, and with each update, its quality keeps getting better. On the other hand, Grok also offers innovative and controversial AI features such as AI companions. Limited to Grok’s iOS app, Companions are 3D AI animated avatars that can conduct voice and text conversations and react with interactive animations. Furthermore, xAI has now solidified Grok’s presence on iOS, Android, and Web platforms.

The company plans to pour more computing power into future releases, but it’s not limited to one direction. It is also focusing on recruiting new talent and experienced AI leaders to develop new AI technologies. The new $20 billion funding will allow xAI to make more progress in all of these segments in 2026.
