Google Gemini app's Personal Intelligence for personalized intelligence

Google has introduced a new beta feature called “Personal Intelligence” to its Gemini app, marking a step toward more personalized AI assistance.

The update allows Gemini to draw on a user’s personal data from connected Google services, including Gmail, Photos, Search history, and YouTube, to provide tailored responses and suggestions.

The feature is designed to help with everyday tasks. For example, it can assist in planning trips by referencing past travel emails or photos, recommend products based on recent searches and viewing history, or track personal goals using calendar events and notes. Gemini can proactively offer insights, such as suggesting workout routines aligned with a user’s fitness interests or summarizing key points from recent emails.

The feature is opt-in only, meaning users must explicitly enable it and choose which apps to connect. Google emphasizes that personal data is not used to train models, and users can verify sources for any response, review activity, or disable the feature at any time. Connected data is processed temporarily for individual queries and then discarded.

The beta rollout begins today for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. Access is limited to these paid tiers, which offer advanced Gemini capabilities. The company plans to gather feedback during the beta phase before potential wider availability.

This development positions Gemini as a more proactive personal assistant within Google’s ecosystem. By leveraging existing user data with clear consent controls, it aims to deliver context-aware help without requiring manual input for every detail. However, the accuracy of suggestions may vary as preferences evolve, and users are encouraged to review outputs carefully.

Overall, Personal Intelligence shows Google’s ongoing effort to make AI more integrated into use cases while addressing privacy concerns through transparent controls.
