Williams Racing Anthropic Claude

Williams Racing, in collaboration with Atlassian, has announced a multi-year partnership with Anthropic to use Claude AI as the team’s Official Thinking Partner.

Claude will be used throughout the Williams organization. It will assist engineers and strategists in areas such as race strategy, car development, and daily operations. The partnership comes at a key time for Formula 1, with major regulatory changes set for 2026. These updates represent one of the sport’s largest shifts in years. Claude is expected to help the team identify critical improvements and make better decisions under pressure.

Anthropic describes Claude as a leading AI focused on reasoning and safety. It is already used by enterprises for tasks like code debugging, research analysis, and product development. The AI supports users in asking sharper questions, challenging ideas, and clarifying choices in high-stakes situations.

Williams Racing announced partnership with Anthropic for Claude as thinking partner

Williams Racing has a strong history in Formula 1, having won nine Constructors’ Championships through innovation and resourcefulness. As one of the few remaining independent teams, it continues to compete by thinking differently. Last season, under Team Principal James Vowles and drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, the team finished in fifth place. The partnership aims to build on this progress, with ambitions to move closer to the front of the grid.

Starting with the 2026 season, Claude branding will appear on the team’s FW48 cars, driver helmets, and team kit. The new livery will be unveiled on February 3, just before the season opener in Melbourne, Australia. This marks the beginning of a longer-term collaboration.

James Vowles, Team Principal, stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Anthropic to the Atlassian Williams F1 Team and Claude as our Official Thinking Partner. At a time when our team is on a journey to the front, this partnership is an opportunity for us to show what’s possible when you combine elite human talent with the right frontier models.”

Mike Krieger, Co-Lead of Anthropic Labs, commented: “Formula 1 is ultimately about the pairing of human endeavour and technical excellence. I’ve watched Atlassian Williams F1 Team find ways to punch above their weight for years; that’s exactly the kind of team Claude is built for.”

Andrew Stirk, Head of Brand Marketing at Anthropic, added: “We chose Atlassian Williams F1 Team because they’re one of F1’s last truly independent teams—they compete on the quality of their thinking and their attention to detail.”

The partnership highlights how AI can support human expertise in demanding fields like motorsport. Both sides see it as a way to demonstrate thoughtful AI use in competitive environments.
