xAI CEO Elon Musk just shared the release date for the Grok 4.20 API. He confirmed developers will have access to the API once the model finishes beta testing. The statement came today in direct response to feedback about the Grok 4.20 rollout hitting platforms without immediate developer tools.

A similar pattern was also found during the Grok 4.1 release. The team launched Grok 4.1 on November 17 and made the Fast variant plus agent tools available through the xAI API just two days later, on November 19. Pricing started at $0.20 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens.

Grok 4.20 uses a team of agents to tackle complex jobs. Users can see faster coding results, like optimized scripts that finish tough tasks in minutes instead of days. It will handle large context windows, process images and videos natively, and pull real-time data from X.

Through its beta timeline, xAI has promised to keep the model updated with improvements and bug fixes to reach the final product. Musk recently said that the Grok 4.20 beta 2 will ship this week, which should boost stability and speed even more.

Meanwhile, the company also rolled out the Grok Imagine API for video generation. Early testers already report big improvements in programming efficiency and problem-solving capabilities. According to the information, xAI is planning to release Grok 4.20 sometime in March.
