Apple will let iPhone user delete App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos and Safari in Europe

Apple is bringing some drastic changes to the iPhone software ecosystem for Europe and soon, you will be able to delete system apps including browser and camera.

These changes follow Apple’s decision to comply with Europe’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). It forces the iPhone maker to open the iOS and iPadOS ecosystem to third-party developers.

Thus allowing developers, to launch their app stores that work alongside the App Store. Also, users can choose to download apps from these sources rather than limiting themselves to a default app marketplace.

Users in Europe will be able to boost default app selection with iOS 18, which will rollout in September. Specifically, the system will bring a setting to select a default app for each in-app feature such as opening a web link in a browser.

Additionally, the company will release a new update that will let you delete system apps such as App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos, and Safari apps in the region. Afterwards, only Settings and Phone apps cannot be deleted.

This is one of the biggest changes for European iPhone users. However, iPhone owners will have to continue using the pre-installed defaults. You can use a third-party browser but the degree of freedom in choosing the default app won’t be there.
