Tesla has officially confirmed that the Semi electric truck factory is on the track to complete construction this year, which will improve the truck’s output for customers across the world.

The production site is an expansion to the existing Gigafactory Nevada with a $3.6 billion investment.

The construction at the site began early last year, and the site went vertical in August 2024. Since then, Tesla kept the progress steady on this plant and aiming for a cost-effective high-volume manufacturing.

The site plans to produce 50,000 units a year, and it could start the production somewhere in late 2025.

Unveiled in 2017, Tesla Semi production initially slated for 2019 but after two years of delay, the vehicle entered pilot production in 2022. PepsiCo was the first to test this vehicle, with 200 units delivered to date.

The pilot program has helped the company to take feedback and improve the design and technologies involved to decide a final production.

The Tesla Semi provides up to 500 miles on a single charge with less than 2 kWh per mile of energy consumption. It can charge up to 70 percent of the battery capacity in 30 minutes at a Supercharger.

The truck has three motors for torque and power, helping the Semi to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 20 seconds even when fully loaded.

It is equipped with active safety features, including advanced motor and brake controls for traction and stability. It has central seating for driving visibility and all-electric architecture to reduce rollover risk and cabin intrusion.
