SpaceX Falcon 9 will launch Space Force’s GPS-III satellite next month

SpaceX will launch Global Positioning System (GPS) III to orbit for the new National Security Space Launch (NSSL) no earlier than next month with a Falcon 9 rocket.

The mission will be carried by Space Force’s Space Systems Command and Space Operations Command (SpOC) and liftoff will happen from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida by the end of May 2025.

The GPS III satellite uses M-Code technology that provides upto 3 times of the capacity than the previous version and 8 times more jamming resistant. The new satellite is providing modernized precision, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities to the Joint Force.

This mission outlines the Space Force’s launch preparedness, which typically takes up to 24 months, but for this mission, the Space Force has completed the preparations in just three months.
