Breaking: Tesla launches adaptive headlights in the US and Canada

Finally, Tesla has officially launched the adaptive headlights feature for US and Canada users after a long wait which stretched from last year.

Teslas in Europe and other regions already had this feature enabled in vehicles, but due to traffic regulations, the company had to do extra work on bringing this online in North America.

Adaptive headlights are based on matrix LEDs, this helps to reduce the beam collision and increase on-road visibility in nighttime.

In action, the vehicle keeps a track of the upcoming traffic based on the car’s vision and sensors. Once detected, the car disables individual LEDs on the upcoming vehicle’s lane, while illuminating the current lane.

Once the vehicle is passed, the car reilluminates all of its beam LEDs for maximum visibility. This process continues throughout the car’s driving on the road, but it is disabled by default.

Tesla has confirmed that adaptive headlights will be available for all matrix LED vehicles in the US and Canada with the Spring 2025 software update released this month. However, it may take some time to reach all of the eligible vehicle owners due to staged rollout.

To be mentioned, the recent Model Y refresh also has adaptive headlights enabled from day 1 of the delivery.
