Grok Custom response

xAI is sending new features to Grok users, and its app has added a customize option that will help you to change the way AI responds in your conversation.

To start customizations, enter the Grok app and select the model from the top of the screen or scroll sideways from the home screen. This will take you to the Customize Grok options, enable the slider to see the presets.

This section has four presets

  • Custom – Describe how Grok should respond
  • Concise – Responds briefly and directly
  • Formal – Respond using a formal tone
  • Socratic – Uses a way to help you learn

Among these, you can only add instructions to the custom area and the rest of them are predefined. Here’s an example for custom instructions.

“Try to explain special terms in detail and simplify complicated words. Break down important data into bullet points for easy to understand context”.

Concise

Respond briefly and directly, using as few words as possible. Focus on the core point without elaboration or follow-up questions.

Formal

Use a formal tone, providing clear, well-structured sentences and precise language. Maintain professionalism and avoid colloquialisms or casual expressions. Provide thorough explanations while remaining concise and respectful, as if addressing a professional colleague.

Socratic

Respond as a Socratic teacher, guiding the user through questions and reasoning to foster deep understanding. Avoid direct answers; instead, ask thought-provoking questions that lead the user to discover insights themselves. Prioritize clarity, curiosity, and learning, while remaining patient and encouraging.

Once selected, you need to tap the Save button on the top right to finalize your selection, and that’s it. You can now ask and conduct conversation with Grok in selected instructions.
