Tesla Model Y L (6 seat) vs Model Y (5 seat) Comparison

Tesla has launched the new Model Y L six-seat EV for people who want more space inside their vehicles, and we can now make a comparison with the five-seat version to know the difference.

The new Model Y L has 4,975mm length, 2,129mm width, and 1,668mm height compared to the 4,797mm x 2,129mm x 1,624mm in the Model Y. That said, the new variant is 179mm longer and 44mm taller than the five-seat version. The wheelbase is larger in the new vehicle at 3,040mm compared to 2,890mm in the Model Y.

The Model YL provides dual-motor performance with all-wheel drive capability, powering the 751km WLTP range compared to 750km on the long-range Model Y and 593km in the RWD version. Note that these ranges could be different based on markets.

The Model Y L performs 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds, the Long Range AWD at 4.3 seconds, and 5.9 seconds for RWD.

Now comes the main part – seats. The Model Y L with its large wheelbase houses three rows with a total of six seats, including:

• Front seats: Seat ventilation and heating, and electric leg rests
• Second row: independent seats, electric lift armrests, ventilation and heating, electric folding
• Third row: heated seats, electric folding

On the other side, the five-seat layout consists of two rows:

• Front seats: Ventilated and heated seats
• Rear seats: heated, electric folding

The Model Y L brings the second-generation suspension system featuring continuously variable damping shock absorbers. It equips a 16-inch front touch-screen, the Model Y has a 15.4-inch screen, and both variants have an 8-inch rear touchscreen.

The sound system is also upgraded with this new vehicle, consisting of 18 speakers and 1 subwoofer. Meanwhile, the Model Y AWD has 15 speakers plus a subwoofer. Model Y L offers another major feature, its large storage at 2,539 liters, which is 401 liters larger than the Model Y. The design is almost identical in the five-seat and six-seat versions, except for the rear badge.

Price

In terms of price comparison, the Tesla Model Y rear wheel drive (RWD) version is priced at 263,500 yuan ($36,674), the Long Range AWD at 313,500 yuan ($43,633), and the YL is priced at 339,000 yuan ($47,182).
