Tesla launches affordable new Model Y AWD in the US
Tesla has launched a new All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant of the Model Y, which is now available in the United States and Puerto Rico. Starting at $41,990, this model delivers an EPA-estimated range of 294 miles, bringing AWD capability to a slightly reduced price tier.
While no major design refreshes or interior upgrades were highlighted, the new AWD trim appears to introduce a more accessible dual-motor option. It may incorporate Tesla’s 4680 battery cells, potentially explaining the 294-mile range compared to higher figures in other trims.
Here are the key specs of the new Model Y AWD
- Starting Price: $41,990
- Range: 294 miles (EPA est.)
- Drive Type: All-Wheel Drive
The new variant slots in just $2,000 above the base rear-wheel-drive model, trading some range for enhanced all-weather performance. It undercuts the Premium AWD by $3,000 while providing similar dual-motor benefits, making it a good option for buyers in snowy regions or those wanting better traction without the full premium cost.

Here are the four models, including the latest release:
- Model Y (standard) RWD – 321 miles at $39,990
- Model Y new AWD – 294 miles at $41,990
- Model Y (standard) AWD – 327 miles at $44,990
- Model Y (standard) AWD – 306 miles at $57,490
This addition expands the Model Y lineup without altering core features like the spacious interior, 74 cu ft of cargo space, or over-the-air updates. Available now via Tesla’s online configurator, the new AWD Model Y strengthens Tesla’s position in the electric SUV market by offering more versatile options at competitive pricing.
