xAI has introduced voice dictation experience to Grok Android users, allowing interactive voice-to-text input directly within the Grok mobile app.

Initially available only to iOS users, the feature now brings parity across major mobile operating systems, expanding the feature to a wider user base. With this feature, users can speak naturally, and the system transcribes speech in real-time, converting spoken words into text queries that Grok processes instantly.

This is particularly useful for on-the-go scenarios, such as multitasking, driving, or when typing is inconvenient. The feature leverages advanced speech recognition to handle natural language, accents, and context effectively, resulting in accurate transcriptions that feel responsive and reliable.

The feature is available to all users without additional cost, though unlimited access requires a subscription. The update improves Grok’s position against competitors by prioritizing practical, user-friendly enhancements.

Here’s how you can use the new dictation feature on Android (or iOS):

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the Grok app installed from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Open the app and navigate to the main chat interface.
  • In the text input field at the bottom, locate the microphone icon.
  • Tap the microphone to activate listening mode; a waveform visualizer will appear to indicate active recording.
  • Speak your query clearly.
  • The app will transcribe your words in real-time. Once finished, tap the send button (or it may auto-submit depending on settings).
  • Grok will process and respond to your voiced input as usual.
