Hypercar company Rimac preparing electric Robotaxi for 2026

Hypercar company Rimac is preparing to enter the electric Robotaxi in 2026 and its first edition could drop in 2026, according to the company’s official.

Founder Mate Rimac told Autocar that his company is working on a commercial launch of a robotaxi “Project 3”. Rimac also confirmed that this robotaxi aims for urban transport.

On a further note, Rimac will also bring an ecosystem for this robotaxi project including chargers, storage hubs, and parking spaces.

A robotaxi is a self-driving taxi or a driverless taxi that is designed with autonomous vehicle technology with an automation level 4 or 5 grade intelligence for ridesharing purposes.

One of the leading robotaxi operators, Cruise has caught a big controversy in the U.S. after one of its vehicles was involved in a pedestrian accident in October last year.

This unfortunate event not only caused the authorities to revoke the autonomous driving license for Cruise but also raised questions about such robotaxis in public.

Unlike Cruise, the Croatian automaker Rimac said that its robototaxi project is a car but a “completely different type”. It may indicate that the company has made some new improvements to the vehicle design and its efficiency on the road.

The company chief also emphasized that this new vehicle will bring a better user experience at a reasonable charge.

Rimac is known for its hypercars including the Navera 1.914hp vehicle and advanced EV technologies. Yet, this new project could operate separately from its other products.

Project 3 is designed for the Croatian capital Zagreb and its R&D center is also located in the UK with over 100 researchers.

Furthermore, Rimac is looking to build a dedicated factory for the robotaxi to expand outside of the home ground.
