Apple could upgrade both iPhone 16 Pro models with new 5X tetraprism zoom capability reaffirms a new rumor from market research firm TrendForce.

The report says that Apple will follow the success of the iPhone 15 Pro Max featuring a Tetraprism telephoto, also known as a periscope camera. With an increased adaptation rate among all of the flagship smartphones, tetraprism will also make an appearance in this year’s iPhone 16 Pro.

The researcher concludes that both iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will use new zoom quality.

Zoom:

iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 12MP 5X telephoto zoom camera with 2x optical zoom out, 10x optical zoom range and 25x digital zoom. The 15 Pro comes with 12MP 3X optical zoom and up to 15x digital zoom.

So the situation with the Pro model would increase up to 5X in the iPhone 16 series. This will contribute to better-zoomed photographs for the buyers.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said that Apple will increase shipments from its precision supplier Largan for the tetraprism camera. The supplier is already experiencing improved demand of up to 40% with the iPhone 15 Pro Max in 3Q 2023.

Kuo says this year Apple will further boost Largan’s sales by up to 160% year over year with the iPhone 16 Pro model.
