Toyota has announced a recall of 280,663 vehicles in the U.S. and these will receive a fix with a software update for all of the recalled models.

A letter published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals Toyota to recalling Tundra, Tundra hybrids, Lexus LX600, and Sequoia SUVs from 2022 and 2024.

The letter mentioned a critical issue in the software related to the transmission control electronic control unit (ECU). This issue may lead to an unexpected movement in neutral and brakes are not applied. Eventually, it may cause unintended acceleration and crash to the vehicle.

The issue will be fixed via a software update that will improve the parts in the transmission that may not disengage immediately when the vehicle is neutral.

This recall is part of NHTSA’s closer scrutiny of on-road vehicles and what risks they may develop over time in both hardware and software.
