Norway will not recall Tesla vehicles over suspension safety

The traffic safety regulator of Norway said on Thursday that it is not looking to recall the Tesla Model S and Model X for the suspension safety issue reported by some users.

The review of this vehicle part was conducted by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA). It was an aftermath of customer reports from 2022, saying that the rear lower control arm was suddenly breaking.

NPRA concludes that the break in the lower control arm “doesn’t constitute an unacceptable risk and that there is no basis for demanding a recall of the vehicles”. The agency added that it will keep on monitoring the situation.

In a finding, the agency confirmed that reported cases occurred when the car was traveling at low speed and mostly while reversing the vehicle.

The reported numbers are pretty low as compared to the overall count of Model X and S in the country.

In concluding remarks, NPRA said that such a defect “would not constitute any safety risk and hazard”.

Data from last year reveals that Tesla has maintained its lead in the EV market and it acquired 20% of the overall market compared to 12.2% from last year. Data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) reveal that EVs accounted for 82.4% of new vehicles sold in 2023, an increase from 79.3% in 2022.
