Australia’s Gilmour Space has received a launch facility license for its Bown Orbital Spaceport in North Queensland. This is a major development in Gilmour’s effort to send the first maiden flight into orbit later this year.

Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and in charge of the Australian Space Agency has issued this license for Gilmour Space as the first domestic orbital launch company.

This facility is located in the Abbot Point State Development Area in North Queensland. It was built and operated by Gilmour Space Technologies.

The company also received permission from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to conduct space launch operations at the spaceport.

Gilmour Space Co-founder and CEO, Adam Gilmour said that this new milestone will send Australia on its road to space.

The space rocket company has been working on this project for the past two years and collaborating with Juru Traditional Owners and other stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels.

Last month, it announced 55 AUD million Series D round funding to prepare for the first mission launch.
