Rivian on Thursday unveiled its R2 mid-sized all-electric SUV starting at $45,000 which is slated to deliver in the first half of 2026. This vehicle comes with a shrunk form factor of Rivian R1S and a few updated sections over its full-size counterpart.

The price of the vehicle is new to the entire Rivian lineup. Customers may find this price-friendly compared to R1T and R1S which starts over $70,000.

With its new capabilities, the vehicle could take 0-60 mph in 3 seconds and all of the variants cover 300+ miles of driving range.

Rivian R2 can fold all of its seats from back to front to create a large room for scenarios such as camping. The tailgate now features powered rear glass which could be accessed separately and rolled down.

This SUV is the first to announce Tesla’s North American Charging STandard (NACS) charge port. It means that R2 could charge with a Tesla Supercharger without an additional charging adapter.

There are three drivetrain for R2 announced by CEO RJ Scaringe including a single motor variation with rear-wheel drive (RWD).

The second one is a dual-motor version with all-wheel drive and the third one is a tri-motor version with two motors on the rear and one on the front.

Rivian R2 comes with a thin horizontal LED light bar on the front which covers the entirety of the width. It consists of two oval-shaped headlights with high and low beams.

The frunk of the car carries the usual space to store luggage or any other stuff. The taillights also stretch through the rear of the R2 which may resemble R1s.

The reservations for Rivian R2 are now open for people who want to buy this new electric SUV. Customers will have to deposit $100 to register interest for news and updates about the order.

With this new release, Rivian is aiming to reach more EV customers across its market and a lower price point could be the main factor to achieve favorable results.
