Hyundai and CATL signed battery partnership for new EVs

Hyundai Beijing and battery maker CATL have signed a partnership agreement to cooperate on electric vehicle (EV) projects and future models.

Both of these firms cooperating since 2017 and launched a couple of models with cumulative sales accounting for 200,000 units. In October 2021, CATL and Hyundai Mobis signed a tech licensing and partnership agreement for CTP technology.

This new agreement will enable Hyundai to launch more than 10 global models featuring CATL’s new battery technologies.

These battery options used by Hyundai include cell-to-pack (CTP) and NP. CATL will work with Hyundai Beijing to cooperate and contribute to the development of new Hyundai automotive products in China.

CATL continues to upgrade its battery technologies and aims for a high driving range. The company has recently unveiled Shenxing Plus, the first-ever LFP battery with more than 1,000 kilometers of range and 4C fast charging.

The battery’s topological structure is optimized on top of module-free CTP 3.0 technology to enhance packing efficiency by 7 percent. This new battery tech exceeds the 200 Wh/kg threshold to 205Wh/kg.
