Tesla Design Chief Franz Von Holzhausen says Robotaxi was years in the making

Tesla Robotaxi will be unveiled tonight in California and Chief of Design, Franz Von Holzhausen shared a short envision of this upcoming vehicle that he had a long ago.
In a recent interview with Techcrunch, the veteran vehicle designer said it was around the Tesla Model S, released in 2012 when he started thinking about an autonomous vehicle. He mentioned that the upcoming launch was inevitable after this long.
He didn’t reveal anything specific about the new product but said it would be intriguing, interesting, and fun.
The new vehicle is based on Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. He might be pointing at different technologies adapted from these EVs but a big surprise is ahead of us.
Since last year, Tesla has been hyping a cheap Tesla EV. It was expected to unveil a $25,000 EV somewhere in 2026. However, reports emerged that the company scraped the plan for this unveiling.
Instead, it wants to pursue a new milestone with a Robotaxi. In April, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla confirmed the Robotaxi product and announced an unveiling in August.
However, the event was postponed to October 10 due to some new changes in the design and the prototype that we may see on stage tonight.
“In a strange sort of way, we’ve been working our way – in a very public way – what an autonomous future will be like,” said Franz. “So you see the big interface that we have, the way it’s configurable and upgradable and we bring a variety of entertainment pieces to it, and some humor as well. And I think that will continue to evolve”
He also hinted that the new vehicle will be a landmark in design compared to previous launches and introduce new technologies to customers.
“I desperately don’t want my kids to have to worry about getting a driver’s license, or driving at all” Franz expressed about the new Tesla vehicle technology.
