Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO is now bullish on the progress with Full Self Driving (FSD) and its upcoming unsupervised release in the US, saying that this will be the biggest moment of 2025.

“2025 really is a pivotal year for Tesla. And when we look back on 2025 and the launch of unsupervised full self-driving, true real-world AI that actually works, I think we may regard it as the biggest year in Tesla history” said Musk during the Q1 2025 earning call.

He later compared the unsupervised FSD with Model S, 3, and Y, calling it even bigger than the Atlas car.

Unsupervised FSD

Tesla has plans to rollout unsupervised FSD-powered paid robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas in June 2025. The company has laid down all of the preparations for this release.

The EV maker will rollout robotaxi in California with pending regulatory approval by this year. Musk said his company can tag other states alongside California by the end of 2025 and more other countries will follow next year.

FSD is an autonomous driving technology in the electric vehicle, its current version requires a driver to monitor the car’s movement and take control in difficult situations. On the other hand, the Unsupervised FSD has no such stipulation on the driver, in fact, its all seats are reserved for passengers and the car drives itself.

It published a few video clips to demonstrate unsupervised FSD inside the Fremont factory self-driving from one point to another.

The initial Robotaxi rollout in the country will use the existing fleet of Model 3 and Y, followed by X, S, and Cybertruck. The company will introduce Cybercab within the next two years after gearing up for its production.
