Tesla engineers and designers shared insights on new Model Y upgrades

Tesla has released a video for the new Model Y and brought its engineers and designers to the front to introduce new features, key changes, and upgrades.

Head of design, Franz von Holzhausen opened the video with the exterior, he said the Model Y represents a new outlook in the automotive market.

Sahm from vehicle design began this outward exploration with the lightbar. With this upgrade, the new Model Y looks more wide and planted on the road than the previous version.

New optimization in the duct enabled more room for the air to pass through the front tire.

Lars Moravy, VP of Vehicle engineering said the new Model Y brings more efficiency. Vineet from Vehicle Systems Engineering revealed that the efficiency angle was fulfilled with new tires, offering lower rolling resistance, better handling, and less road noise.

Lars also said the new suspension tuning enables the ride comfort and improves the impact resistance.

Giulio from Tesla attributes the new Model Y with at least 20% in-vehicle quietness via acoustic glass all over the vehicle. New door seals provide perfect closure and remove the background sound.

Users can now set the blower to a lower speed to reduce cabin noise and power consumption.

Ian from vehicle design shed some light on the reflective cross-car rear lamp, which throws a puddle of red light. On top of that, you will see the new thermoplastic rear spoiler with better aerodynamics and range efficiency. That’s not it, the rear door also opens wide for improved cargo access. Fraz revealed the new powered seats reclining, which starts at one tap of the button to create extra storage.

The frunk is more utility-focused and comes with a drain plug, which you pull any time to empty liquid or for cleaning. Tesla has some new accessories planned for the new Model Y frunk, releasing soon.

Pete from Hardware Design said the new Model Y has an improved range of safety hardware and features that enable a safer ride including a front-facing camera with a 180-degree field of view.

Jenn from Vehicle Design said the new interior has a better theme with ambient lighting. It can be customized into any color to optimize the in-car experience.

The vehicle has new heated and ventilated seats for extra drive comfort.

Emma from Autopilot and Infotainment said the new Model Y has a new passenger row screen. David from Vehicle Software showed us a new feature that allows users to pair two Bluetooth headsets to the rear screen.

That’s not it, the company has installed 16 speakers inside the vehicle to improve the sound and the microphone is now closer to the occupant for an optimized calling quality.
