Apple today announced its largest investment of $500 billion in the US to increase manufacturing capacity and hire thousands of employees in the country over the course of the next four years.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.

Apple will open a new advanced manufacturing facility in Houston to produce servers for Apple Intelligence. Expanding to 250,000 square feet, the server manufacturing facility will open in 2026 and house thousands of new employees.

These servers were previously manufactured outside the US and used for Apple Intelligence and privacy features. The company has plans to expand its data center in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada.

The company will create an academy in Michigan to provide manufacturing training and improve research and development investment in the US to support technologies such as silicon engineering.

In the past five years, Apple has nearly doubled its US-based advanced research and development spending and this new funding will take it to the next level.

In the next four years, the iPhone maker will add around 20,000 jobs, the majority of which will enter research and development, silicone engineering, software development, AI, and machine learning.

The new $500 billion investment will improve Apple’s supply chain partners and direct employment through various products in different states.

Under this plan, Apple will help companies transition to advanced manufacturing with the upcoming Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit. Apple engineers and top experts from Michigan State will consult with small and medium-sized businesses on implementing AI and smart manufacturing techniques.

Apple says it’s the largest US taxpayer having paid more than $75 billion in U.S. taxes over the past five years including $19 billion in 2024 alone.
