Tesla launches Diamond Black color for Model 3 and Y
Tesla has introduced a Diamond Black color for the Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in the US, and you can order this new color from the online configurator at an additional cost of $1,500, similar to existing paid paints.
The foundation of diamond black is a rich, dark black that absorbs light, providing a sleek and sophisticated look. This is a deep black creates a striking contrast, especially on the modern, angular design of the Model 3 and Model Y, making the vehicle appear more elegant and stealthy.
This new color includes fine metallic or pearlescent flakes embedded in the paint. These flakes catch and reflect light, creating a subtle shimmering effect that becomes more noticeable under direct sunlight or bright lighting. The “refined flake appearance” suggests that the particles are small and evenly distributed, giving the paint a polished, high-end look rather than a loud, glittery one.

The sparkle effect adds depth and dimensions to the paint to make it look vibrant and luxurious compared to a regular black finish. In different lighting conditions, the car’s surface will appear to shift slightly — under dim light, it might look like a solid deep black, but in sunlight, the sparkles will come in effect. It makes the car look dynamic and changes its appearance with eye-catching quality.
Compared to quicksilver or deep blue metallic, diamond black maintains a more understated elegance. It is not as reflective as a full metallic finish, but has enough sparkle to shine out differently.
The new color selection is now available with Tesla Model 3 and new Model Y in North America.
