xAI is preparing to launch new Waifu AI companions for Grok users
After launching AI animated avatar Ani, xAI is preparing for an even wider range of Waifu characters to offer under the Grok companions feature.
Released a few days ago, Grok Companions allows users to interact with a visually defined avatar featuring a human-like voice. The avatar has different animations and slang to make the conversation interesting.
Since its release, xAI has seen a sharp rise in user interest, and the team has now opened a job role requirement for a full-stack engineer who can create more of these Waifu characters. That’s right, and the company is paying a good amount to the rightful person who meets the criteria.

xAI is hiring a full-stack engineer to make waifus AI companions
Specifically, this job role requires a profound knowledge of multimedia engineering and creative thinking to make Grok’s real-time avatar. The person in charge will focus on real-time avatar’s efficiency, design, and scalability. The job role focuses on advancing research in audio and gameplay, as well as ensuring quality product development to improve the platform’s performance.
Applicant must be working on low-latency systems and protocols, including WebSocket and WebRTC, along with expert-level knowledge in Python and Rust programming languages. It will be preferable if the applicant has some iOS experience with these skills. Media creation is the most important part of this job role, and it requires in-depth expertise and prior experience in building high performance media processing pipeline.
This Waifu Grok AI Companions full-stack Developer will receive an annual salary range from $180k to $440k. The AI company confirmed that the base salary will be just one part of the total reward package, which will include equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance and various other discounts and more.
