xAI CEO thanked the outgoing co-founder Igor Babuschkin
Igor Babuschkin has announced that he is leaving xAI, he was one of the co-founders of the AI company and helped build the Grok AI model. Igor announced his departure on the social media site X and confirmed that he will be starting a new venture.
“Today was my last day at xAI, the company that I helped start with Elon Musk in 2023″.
This was the year when xAI released the initial version of the Grok AI model, which aims to seek the maximum truth with its humorous reply system.
xAI was considered a latecomer compared to its well-established names like OpenAI and Google. However, the rapid development and new talent recruitment have allowed the company to rollout new improvements to its frontier model and also gain momentum in the industry.
Last year, xAI revealed the largest AI supercomputer cluster, Colossus. It initially housed 100,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs and was built and running within 120 days. This capacity was doubled within the next 100 days to two hundred thousand GPUs, powering the latest Grok 3 and 4 versions.
“Industry veterans told us that building the Memphis supercluster in 120 days would be impossible. But we believed we could do the impossible,” wrote Igor.
After expressing his thoughts and feelings for the xAI staff, he announced the launch of Babuschkin Venture to explore AI safety research and back startups in AI and agentic systems.
“Thanks for helping build @xAI! We wouldn’t be here without you” Elon Musk, CEO of xAI, has thanked Igor for his time at the company.
