Nvidia will invest $100 billion in OpenAI to install 10 gigawatts of AI datacenter

OpenAI and Nvidia have jointly announced a new partnership to install 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI’s next-gen AI infrastructure, which is one of the biggest AI datacenter development deals signed to date.

Nvidia will back this move with $100 billion investment in OpenAI as it installs new Nvidia systems. Both partners are targeting the first phase of AI datacenters deployment in the second half of 2026, utilizing Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform. OpenAI will use these datacenters’ capacity to train its next-gen models to achieve superintelligence.

“This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

The ChatGPT maker is already one of the biggest clients of Nvidia’s AI computing technologies and GPUs. This new partnership extension will bring these two companies together to collaborate on computing and networking for future growth.

OpenAI and Nvidia will cooperate on the 10-gigawatt Nvidia systems installation roadmap in the datacenter, including work on software and hardware.

“Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale,” said Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI.
