xAI Grokipedia launched, Grok AI powered Wikipedia competitor
Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of xAI, has officially announced the launch of Grokipedia, an online encyclopedia that rivals Wikipedia and is powered by the Grok AI model.
During this initial launch, xAI is rolling out v0.1, which is available via grokipedia.com. The home page is a simplified version of Grok.com with a search bar, showing query suggestions, and a “Grokipedia” version logo.
Users need to enter a search query such as “Grok” and Grokipedia will suggest autocomplete for related topics. However, users may observe that the early version feels a bit less informative, which is due to insufficient data or possibly due to less model training.

Search
Once searched, the Grokipedia website will show you a detailed page similar to Wikipedia, which contains a table of contents on the left and the main content on the right side with stylized text.

Talking about the content source, Grokipedia is using Grok AI to curate information from internet articles and online sources, and adding a fact-check layer on top to generate a Grokipedia page in real-time.
The early launch has reportedly met with a crash bug as reported by some X users, but the website quickly recovered. The downsides of the early Grokipedia version’s performance and the bugs were pre-announced in Musk’s previous posts.
Earlier this month, the xAI chief confirmed that Grokipedia v0.1 will be a “Buggy beta” and the company will focus on taking user feedback to improve the features and performance.

After this launch, Musk announced that Grokipedia v1.0 will be ten times better than v0.1. He reiterated that “but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo”.
Musk vs Wikipedia
Musk has been quite vocal about his stand against the largest online encyclopedia, accusing Wikipedia of a systemic left-wing bias and, ideologically captured platform. He said the editors are activists and the content is far from a neutral standpoint.
The world’s richest man also called on people to stop funding Wikipedia, citing that the platform is the source of misinformation and “wokeness”. However, Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, has refused Musk’s accusation.
