Volkswagen U.S. has released the sales figure for its cars sold in the first quarter of 2024 including a 37% decline for the ID.4 electric vehicle (EV).

The automaker says its overall sales in the market increased by 21 percent year over year (YoY) in the past quarter compared to the first quarter of 2023.

Its Jetta sedan has performed strongly with 13,024 sales in Q1 2024 compared to 4,574 sales in Q1 2023 with a 185 percent year-over-year progress. GTI and Golf R passenger cars also saw 156 and 125 percent YoY jump.

Volkswagen sold a total of 82,101 cars in the first quarter of 2024 compared to 67,853 cars in the same duration last year.

Despite good sales figures, the company has not received a good reception for its ID.4 electric model. It accounted for 6,167 sales for the first quarter down from 9,758 units in Q1 2023 with a 37-year-over-year decline.

However, the company expects some business to rebound with the 2024 version of ID.4 which is available with a $7,500 Federal tax credit.
