xAI Grok 4 Fast (Mini) is here and it’s instantly fast
xAI is rolling out a Grok 4 Fast AI model for users in early access beta, with an instantly fast response speed compared to Grok 4.
The AI company introduced Grok 4 in July this year as its most powerful AI model to date, thanks to the new reasoning capabilities. The model was trained on 200,000 GPUs at the Colossus facility in Memphis with massive data poured to improve its responses.
On top of that, the Grok family entered a Grok 4 Heavy, a multi-agent model with parallel test-time compute. Each of these agents focuses on different tasks to research and find the most accurate responses for big queries.
Grok 4 Fast focuses on delivery time rather than more research, prioritizing fast response with simple answers. The model also speeds up answers based on the question’s type and length. Meanwhile, some users found that the response rate is not impressive.
Grok currently serves the following response modes:
- Fast
- Expert
- Heavy
And there’s an Auto mode, which switches between fast and expert on its own. The Heavy is available only for SuperGrok Heavy subscription holders. You should know that the fast mode uses Grok 3 and it should get replaced with the Grok 4 Fast once it’s ready.

Grok 4 Fast
It was previously reported that xAI is working on a mini Grok 4 version. And some of the Grok users on X confirmed that they’re seeing the new Grok 4 Fast “Mini” in the model selector. This change is majorly reported outside of the U.S.

For now, xAI is assigning Grok 4 fast access to SuperGrok Heavy, SuperGrok, X Premium, and Premium+ users. However, the model is very likely to reach free users soon.
The new model is available as a test version for users with the experimental feature enabled. Any subscribed user can go to the Settings and tap on the Subscription button on the left bar. Here you will see “Enable early access models”, tap on the toggle to enable this feature. Once enabled, you will see early development options in the model selector.
