SpaceX and xAI founder commented on sending Grok AI with Starship to Mars

SpaceX Founder Elon Musk said that the company will send the Grok large language Model (LLM) chatbot to Mars with the Starship rocket during the first launch attempt to the red planet.

Musk gave this new comment during the Grok 3 launch during the live stream when the team demonstrated the following prompt:

“Generate code for an animated 3d plot of a launch from earth landing on mars and then back to earth at the next launch window”

The program used its high-capacity reasoning capability to share an answer compiled with Python script using matplotlib and NumPy to create an animated 3D plot.

After demonstrating this code execution, an xAI official asked Musk “When are we gonna install Grok in a rocket”. “In two years” replied the rocket company’s chief.

He also explained the transit window between Earth and Mars, which could occur every 26 months, and also anticipated that the next month would be November 2026.

“If all goes well, SpaceX will send Starship rockets to Mars and with Optimus robot and Grok” Musk concluded.

SpaceX Starship rocket consists of two stages a Super Heavy booster and an upper stage. The booster takes off the ground with its 33 Raptor engines and takes the rocket to space.

There it conducts the hot staging and returns to the landing site, and the catch tower catches the booster with its robotic arms. In the meantime, the ship with its payload continues the mission into space.

Starship’s upper stage can transfer up to 150 tons of payload. More to say, the ship also has 6 Raptor engines, which can ignite into the vacuum. The company has designed this rocket to take humans to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond.

This integrated rocket is currently under rigorous testing, perfecting the launch and landing phases for both stages to commit to a commercial launch. Please check out the Starship section for all information about this rocket.
