Rivian sending free NACS DC adapter reservation emails to R1 owners

Rivian is sending reservation emails to R1 and Rivian R1T owners across the U.S. offering a free NACS DC adapter for their electric vehicle.
A few of the recipients shared the email today on the social media site X. It appears that the email rollout has just begun and more of the R1 owners will get this it gradually.
Rivian R1 series owners can claim the free NACS DC adapter by clicking the “Reserve Your Adapter” button at the bottom of the email. The company says it is taking reservations only until August 2, 2024.
After this duration, the adapter’s reservations may not be accepted under the free campaign. The company has not revealed a price for this adapter at the moment.
Once reserved, Rivian will take a follow-up confirmation on the shipping address when the adapter is ready for delivery. In that case, the carmaker also did not share an estimated time of shipment either.
Only one adapter may be claimed per Rivian vehicle. Adapters will be distributed based on the oldest to newest delivery dates of its R1 vehicles. It means that older Rivian R1 vehicle owners will get the adapter first then new owners.
Amid this announcement, Rivian said it is building an inventory for the adapters to ship in large quantities but it might take additional time.
In June 2023, Rivian announced to adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS). It allows non-Tesla vehicles to charge at its Supercharger network. The company now has more than 15,000 NACS supporter charging stations across North America.
Last month, Rivian completed the changes required in software and hardware to enable NACS on R1 and R1T vehicles. Now it is ready to distribute the adapter and allow the Rivian R1 series owners to charge on Tesla charging stations.
Notably, the company will also adopt NACS in upcoming Rivian R2, R3, and R3X vehicles slated to deliver in 2026.
